Everybody with a functioning sex life will tell you it's easier to meet people through friends. Great advice, and useless if you work nights and your social circle is three guys and a PlayStation. Instagram hands you the friend of a friend network without the awkward barbecues. That girl you met once at a wedding, the cute one in your cousin's group photo: you can Follow her right now, in two taps.

Plenty of people Follow back on autopilot, even total strangers. With mutual friends in the picture your odds jump, because you're not some random dude from nowhere. Shared connections work like a free background check, and that little row of familiar faces under your name beats any Verified badge a dating site ever slapped on a profile.

A Follow isn't a match, though. Sometimes it means absolutely nothing. What it does is put your posts in her feed, and from there you pick your poison: play the slow game with likes and comments, or slide into the DMs and pray your opener isn't cringe.

You can use it from a browser, but the app for iOS and Android is where everyone really lives, and it's so popular some phones come with it baked in. I download it the minute I get a new device now, no questions asked. You do have to sign up before you can Follow or message anyone, which takes a couple of minutes and a pulse.

As for money, I never paid a cent to Follow, post or slide into DMs, and I never hit a paywall doing any of it. That already makes it cheaper than half the dating apps that milk you for boosts and super likes. Is it safe? It's a mainstream social network, and I didn't run into any shady pop ups or sketchy redirects while testing.
